Contact Improvisation
Contact Improvisation is a contemporary form of dance in which the dance is created spontaneously by people making physical contact. Like Acroyoga, it can involve creative use of weight sharing and balance, where two or more bodies form a sculptural whole. Like Aikido, a martial art which inspired Contact Improv, the dance emerges from a dynamic flow of bodies in motion, guided by nonverbal insight. And like improvisational theater, contact improv is a lot of fun for both creator and observer – you never know where it will take you.
I have been enjoying contact for a few years now and have the benefit of learning from some very talented teachers. For more more information and ways to experience contact, check out the contact improvisation page on ZanaDance.
