This is where I stayed in Ubud, a place called Cendana Resort. It is expensive by Bali standards, but it has a special setting. It is right on the main road, but set back and surrounded by rice fields. The soundscape here is truly breathtaking - frogs, cecadas, geckos, waterfowl, roosters, and stray dogs all have parts in the nightly concert. There is a pool and spa on the premises as well, where you can get a message on a private outdoor veranda while being serenaded by the surround-sound of creatures vying for their mates.
